Chainsaw Man: the 36-million-copy horror manga that has conquered the world

Chainsaws, devils, blood, and a protagonist who simply dreams of a normal life.

Chainsaw Man has become one of the most famous manga of recent years, exceeding 36 million copies in circulation in 2026. A huge achievement for a series that began in 2018 and became an international phenomenon in just a few years.

What is Chainsaw Man about?

The protagonist is Denji, a dirt-poor boy forced to work as a devil hunter to pay off the debts left behind by his father.

His only true friend is Pochita, a small and very strange Chainsaw Devil.

After a dramatic event, the two merge and Denji gains the ability to transform parts of his body into giant chainsaws.

Thus, Chainsaw Man is born.

From that moment on, Denji enters a world made of Devil Hunters, terrifying creatures, violent fights, and characters whose true intentions are hard to fully grasp.

But calling it just a horror manga would be reductive: Chainsaw Man blends horror, dark fantasy, action, absurd humor, and surprisingly emotional moments.

Who is Tatsuki Fujimoto?

Behind Chainsaw Man is Tatsuki Fujimoto, one of the most original manga authors of his generation.

Before the success of Chainsaw Man, he had already created the series Fire Punch. Subsequently, he authored highly acclaimed works such as Look Back and Goodbye, Eri.

One of Fujimoto's most recognizable traits is his love for cinema.

His panels often feature framing, silences, and scene changes that are more reminiscent of a film than a traditional manga. The author's passion for cinema has become so well-known that even the Chainsaw Man anime contains numerous tributes to the world of film.

A fun fact: Chainsaw Man also won in America

Success didn't just come from the audience.

In 2021, Chainsaw Man won the Harvey Award for Best Manga, one of the most important accolades in the American comic book world.

And the success continued in the following years, turning Denji and Pochita into two instantly recognizable characters even outside of Japan.

And today?

The story of Chainsaw Man concluded in Japan in June 2026 with volume 24, closing out a series that began nearly eight years earlier.

It is therefore a good opportunity, even for those who have never read it and want to finally discover from the beginning one of the craziest, most violent, and most unpredictable manga of recent years.
